Last week, I brought you elderberry health benefits and usesand showed you how to make your own elderberry syrup. When I began researching elderberries, one exciting benefit I found was its skin benefits. I am such a sucker for anything beauty related, so of course, I had to play around with elderberries in my beauty routine. Read on for two new DIY Beauty-Boosting Elderberry Recipes…

This toner recipe is divine! It’s great alone or with the optional oils. Here’s why I ultimately chose the oils I use in this recipe.

Ylang Ylang:Known for its sweet floral fragrance, ithelps moisturize and revitalize skin. This uplifting essential oil is great for all skin types, but it especially benefits dry or mature complexions.

Frankincense:Has been sought after since ancient times for its many benefits, including its rejuvenating and beautifying properties. Great for all skin types—but especially beneficial for mature complexions—this luxurious oil helps moisturize and smooth the skin.

Lavender:Itis the perfect place to start and is a must-have in every home. This popular essential oil soothes and nourishes all skin types and is easy to incorporate into your skin care regimen every day.

Elderberry Tea Toner Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 T dried Elderberries (like this)
  • 1 cup water

Optional Ingredients:

  • 4 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 4 drops ylang ylang essential oil
  • 4 drops lavender essential oil

Directions

  1. Boil water and simmer berries for 15 minutes or more.
  2. Allow to cool and transfer to glass spray bottle (like these).
  3. Add essential oils, if desired. I also like to add 2 drops of argan oil in the dry winter months. In summer, I like to use my favorite balancing face oil from Beautycounter.
  4. Shake well before using.

How to Use

  1. Spray liberally onto face, neck, and chest. Follow with your favorite serum and moisturizer.
  2. Toner may also be used to refresh skin during the day or set makeup.
  3. I like to use this after cleansing to set my makeup and to refresh my face during the day. When I don’t have time to make my own toner, I use this plumping spray to set my makeup and re-hydrate and refresh my skin throughout the day.

Elderberry & Lavender Steam Recipe

Directions

  1. Use berries steeped above, cover with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Transfer water to a bowl and add 2 drops Lavender Essential oil (like this).
  3. Hold clean face over steaming water (not too close) for up to 15 minutes. You may choose to cover our head with a towel.
  4. You’ll be getting all the antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral properties to benefit your skin and respiratory system.
  5. After steaming, use your favorite mask, the toner above, followed by moisturizer and eye cream.

  5. Hi, thanks for sharing. I love elderberries 🍇 I I have a question for the tea toner recipe. The tone will not stain your skin? The tea is purple so do you rinse your face after using it? Or you leave it. 🤔
How long does it last? Thank you!

    1. Hi Mariana! You’re welcome. The berries I use in the post don’t stain. I would use enough to dampen skin, but not saturate and leave it on to help balance skin pH. It should last about a month.

  6. Thanks for your post! Excellent information for folks to capitalize on elderberry use. Years ago, I saw a recipe for elderberry leaf vanishing cream. It was used long ago to remove age/sun spots. I can’t find any mention of it or anything like it online. Ideas? Thanks!
